The Partners of SKY LAWYERS Liuda Yablokova and Natalia Shvechkova together with the
colleagues from England and Wales and held the international workshop “The Convention on the
Civil Aspects of the International Child Abduction (The Hague 1980 Convention): interpretation
and application in cross – border family disputes”.
The workshop took place on 10 – 11 March 2023 in Yerevan, Armenia and united the lawyers
from Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Italy, Hungary and other countries.
The British colleagues of SKY LAWYERS Carolina Marín Pedreño, solicitor, the Partner and
Head of Children Department and the vice – president of the European Chapter of IAFL
(International Academy of Family Lawyers) and Teertha Gupta, KC, barrister, mediator, a
(Family) Deputy High Court Judge, IAFL Fellow delivered presentations on application of the
Hague 1980 Convention by the courts in England and Wales and recent developments in the
case law.
On the first day of our workshop Liuda Yablokova spoke about the key concepts of the Hague
1980 Convention and the practical aspects of its interpretation and application in the cross –
border cases on children by the russian courts. On the second day of the workshop Natalia
Shvechkova spoke on the Article 8 case law of the European Court of Human Rights (violation
of the right to respect family life in cross – border cases considered by the courts in Russia).
As part of the workshop activity Natalia Shvechkova and Liuda Yablokova prepared the Good
Practice Guide for lawyers on Child Return cases (Application of the Convention on Civil
Aspects of the International Child Abduction 1980), which included the recommendations for
lawyers, useful practical information and available in an electronic format.
